Estridge is flying a naval pennant from the main, and a British ensign aft mast, and the singular "W" code flag. At this time, with the full hostilities of the Napoleonic campaign embroiling the world, British merchant ships flew identity flags as assigned from the Holyhead Station before Liverpool. Twenty-five years would pass before the establishment of the Marryat Code would become the standard. The ship is undoubtedly under government contract in transporting either troops or supplies.

Condition Report*: Wax re-lined canvas in very good condition with fine overall craquelure commensurate with age; fully stable paint film; faint stretcher creasing along edges; small accretion in lower right corner and faint scuffing to varnish layer along upper right edge; under UV examination, minimal in-painting: along the top edge and in the stretcher creases (vertical lines parallel to left and right edges and partial horizontal lines parallel to top and bottom edges); very fine, incidental in-painting in the waves, a few flecks in the upper left sky; one dime-sized region on the hull of central ship and one dime-sized region in upper right sky; the ships are otherwise in excellent condition.
