Bela Bartok's composition for piano Mikrokosmos consists of 153 progressive pieces in six volumes written between 1926 and 1939. While it may be pure coincidence that Bartok also wrote a series of Improvisation pieces, there is no doubt that Preusser drew inspiration from classical and jazz music.

The term Microcosmos from the Greek means small world. This painting constitutes its own small world, completely self contained, its own world, its own universe.
