Created by Gloria and Forrest "Skip" Flickling, writing together under the pseudonym G.G. Flickling, Honey West broke new ground as one of the first female detectives in pulp fiction. Gloria described her as part Marilyn Monroe and part Mike Hammer-an improbable combination that Robert McGinnis somehow captured perfectly in his 1959 cover art for Pyramid Books.
