    Pendant: Jaguar with a Human Leg in its Mouth
    Veraguas, Chiriquí, Diquís
    A.D. 900 - 1520
    Gold, Weight 54.51 grams
    Length 2 5/8 in. Width 1 5/8 in.

    A sleekly sculptural jaguar with an almost playful look holds a human leg in its mouth, the foot at the animal's right side and a bit of fleshed bone end at the left. Several similar examples are known, including one in the Fundación Museos Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR9), San José. The condition is good.

    The lot is sold with a statement of authenticity from the distinguished expert Robert Sonin.
