Two of the greatest names in American popular arts were linked in 1942 when Norman Rockwell was selected to illustrate the movie poster for Orson Welles' latest film, The Magnificent Ambersons.

Featured in our auction are three of the six Rockwell portraits created for the film's movie posters. These portraits include Richard Bennett as Major Amberson, Anne Baxter as Lucy Amberson, and Delores Costello as Isabel Amberson.

"From the Man who Made 'The Best Picture' of 1941. Orson Welles' Mercury Production of Booth Tarkington's Great Novel. Real life screened more daringly than it's ever been before."

This work is reproduced as figure A604 on page 483 of Norman Rockwell A Definitive Catalogue by Laurie Moffatt. The entry notes, "Four of the six portraits are known to be extant. The portraits of Joseph Cotten and Agnes Moorehead have not been located."
