A copy of the Saturday Evening Post magazine and a letter by the artist dated September 2, 1936, gifting this work to Major Edward Bowes, accompanies the present work.
Condition Report*:
Unlined canvas; minor craquelure and surface grime; faint stretcher bar marks; under UV light, there appears to be small scattered spots of inpaint in white background and along edges; an approx. 6 x 5 inch section of inpaint at bottom center affecting wooden box at bottom of image; an approx. 2 x 1.5 inch spot of inpaint in far right figure's chest; an approx. 2.5 x 2 area of inpaint in upper right corner and an approx. 6 x 7 inch area of inpaint in upper left corner - both not affecting image and with corresponding patches on the reverse. Framed Dimensions 40 X 32 Inches
