    Description

    Montague Dawson (British, 1895-1973)
The moonlit way - The Invercargill, 1938
    Oil on canvas
    28 x 42 inches (71.1 x 106.7 cm)
Signed lower left: Montague Dawson and titled on the stretcher

    PROVENANCE:
Frost & Reed, London, (stock #7739).

Condition Report*: BEVA-lined canvas, recent keys. There appears to be a recent uneven, heavy varnish applied to the painting, particularly to the sky but around the shape of the ship, which obscures past restoration. There are small touches of inpaint along the top edge and left side edge that lie on top of this recent varnish. Areas in water fluoresce; this may be due to the pigments rather than restoration. There is more noticeable craquelure in the sky rather than in the water.   Framed Dimensions 31.5 X 45.5 Inches
