"Sowei" Helmet Mask

This mask has the classic small facial features and hairstyle with three plate-like ridges set at right angles to the facial plane. Downward pointed projections perhaps refer not to locks of hair, but to small antelope horns incorporated into the hairstyle for magical power. A Janus mask that may symbolize power and wisdom or the connections of society elders with female ancestors is rare.
