MARIE DE FORD KELLER (American, 1860-1962)
    Woman Sitting on Rocks
    Oil on panel
    12 x 15 inches (30.5 x 38.1 cm)
Artist's name inscribed verso, probably by a later hand

The biography of painter Marie de Ford Keller is not very well known. She is listed variously as American and German, as a student of William Merritt Chase, and having trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and at the Royal Academy in Munich. Her name surfaces in the records as having been a portraitist active in Baltimore, Maryland, and indeed a number of her formal portraits are preserved in the Peabody Institute there.

Condition Report*: Craquelure commensurate with age. Under UV examination there are several spots of inpaint in the upper left quadrant of the compostion in the water and sky, just to the left of the woman's hat, and a half-dollar sized spot on the woman's gray skirt. The rest of the composition has no retouching.  Framed Dimensions 15 X 18 Inches
