PROVENANCE:
The artist;
Private collection, New York, gift from the above.

The daughter of the renowned American modernist Milton Avery, March Avery has carried forward her father's legacy of lyrical color and distilled form while developing a distinctly personal voice. Like her father-and her mother, the painter Sally Michel Avery (lots 67002-67004)-she works in flattened planes of radiant color, reducing figures and still lifes to their essential harmonies. Yet March's sensibility is uniquely her own: quieter, more introspective, and imbued with a tender intimacy that captures the subtleties of daily life.

In Joe's Daffodils, Avery transforms a simple bouquet into a celebration of shape and hue. The clustered blossoms, rendered in brilliant yellows against a dark background, radiate warmth and immediacy, while the oval composition enhances the sense of intimacy and focus. The work epitomizes Avery's ability to find expressive power in simplicity-a hallmark of her enduring style.

Long admired by collectors of American Modernism, Avery's work is now receiving broader recognition as museums and the market increasingly acknowledge her as a vital link in one of America's most important artistic dynasties.
