The Luo Brothers-Luo Wei (b. 1963), Luo Fang (b. 1964), and Luo Hao (b. 1972)-are known for vibrant, lacquered compositions that fuse traditional Chinese craft with the imagery of global consumer culture. Welcome the World's Famous Brands (2001) layers familiar logos such as Coca-Cola and McDonald's into a jubilant, chaotic surface that is at once celebratory and satirical, reflecting the rapid influx of international capitalism into China at the turn of the millennium. Executed in lacquer on wood, the work exemplifies the trio's practice of merging folk aesthetics with the glossy appeal of advertising, creating a visual language both critical and playful.
