    Description

    LONE WOLF (American 1882-1970)
    Warriors of the Grand Canyon
    Oil on canvas
    38in. x 53.5in.
    Signed lower left

An American Indian raised on the Blackfoot reservation in Montana, Lone Wolf is famous for his western-themed paintings in the style of Remington and Russell. In his youth, he was discovered by Thomas Moran who encouraged the boy's talent. He formally studied in California and Chicago before traveling and painting across the Southwest. Due to its fine condition and large format, this painting is an excellent example of Lone Wolf's monumental and heroic paintings of the American Indian.

    Provenance: Rainone Galleries, Arlington, TX
acquired from the above by the present owner
