    By descent to the artist's grand-daughter, Eleanor Gould Onderdonk Limpert.

    Along with Flowers in a Blue Vase by Eleanor Rogers Onderdonk, the following lots by Julian Onderdonk come from the collection of Julian's grand-daughter, Eleanor Gould Onderdonk Limpert. They include paintings, plein-air oil sketches, pencil sketches, drawings, and diagrams which give fascinating insights into Julian's artistic process, revealing the staggering amounts of planning, preparation, and skill needed to create his major landscape paintings. That they can stand alone as compelling artworks is another testament to his talent.

    Condition Report*: Unlined canvas; light surface grime; frame wear with associated flecks of paint loss along the extreme edges; faint stretcher creases, most notable under raking light; faint craquelure with several small flecks of paint loss near the lower right edge, far left bottom edge and lower center region of the composition;
