    Description

    JULIAN ONDERDONK (American, 1882-1922)
A Peach Orchard in Bloom, 1921
    Oil on board
    8-7/8 x 11-7/8 inches (22.5 x 30.2 cm)
Signed lower left: - Julian Onderdonk -
Inscribed verso: A Peach Orchard in Bloom / San Antonio, Texas / Julian Onderdonk / 1921

A Peach Orchard in Bloom is a stunning example of Onderdonk's late work. Painted in 1921, only a year before his death, it is among his most impressionistic works. The exquisite, painterly brushwork brings a light, airy quality to the work and invokes the freshness and brilliance of the Texas Hill Country in spring. Orchards are not all that common in Onderdonk's body of work but his interest in the natural beauty of Texas in all its colors and seasons shines through this lovely painting.

It would indeed have been much simpler to work with a local auction house, and we had local options. But we never once regretted going with Heritage.
