Unlined canvas with Tasset & Lhôte supplier's mark on the reverse. A short vertical line of abrasion in upper right corner. Slight yellowing to the varnish layer. A very few instances of extremely faint craquelure visible upon close inspection. Some scattered small dots of discolored accretion. Scattered variations in surface texture and paint thickness, most notably affecting the faces of the two primary female figures. Not examined out of frame.
Under UV: heavily applied varnish fluoresces green unevenly and appears to have been selectively removed in some areas. An area of brushy retouching at center of right edge. A few scattered dots and dashes of retouching throughout, most notably affecting the costume of the reading woman and the face of the man attending to the rider. Apparent strengthening applied to the red/orange pigments throughout.
