A Massachusetts artist of the mid 20th century, John Whorf is known for his watercolor paintings of New England harbor and coastal scenes. He trained in Boston with Phillip Hale and William James, and also spent time in Provincetown, studying with Charles Hawthorne in 1917 or 1918. Whorf was a prolific artist whose paintings of Cape Cod, Provincetown (where he was a leading figure in the artists colony), and other New England harbor towns, were very popular among collectors.
