Condition Report*: Lined canvas. Lining canvas and raw edges of original canvas visible at edges. Several lines of horizontal cracking, most apparent at center of left and right edges. Slight rippling to lower left and right corners of canvas, visible under raking light. Yellowing to the varnish layer. Craquelure, apparently stabilized beneath the varnish layer. A few scattered small dots of unretouched fill medium. Variation to surface sheen visible under raking light. Mild surface dirt and dust. Not examined out of frame due to size.
Under UV: heavily applied varnish fluoresces green unevenly. Extensive but finely applied retouching to address craquelure and the more pronounced cracking. Additional retouching to the architecture at upper left, and around the hands of the figures across the center of the work. Brushy retouching to edges where canvas is laid down.
