H.J. Ward was one of the greatest painters ever to illustrate pulp covers and this and the following painting are two of the most impressive examples we've ever offered.
Condition Report*:
This painting has been professionally conserved and presents in excellent condition. The conservator has re-lined the canvas and there is scattered inpainting in the following areas: vertical line in woman’s inner left thigh, 3” horizontal line above lower middle figure’s head, two points of inpainting to lower right figure’s head, 1.5” vertical line along right side of woman’s torso, two 2” lines in upper sky region, scattered minor inpainting along extreme edges. There is moderate strengthening along bottom edge that extends into the bottom of artist’s signature. Not framed.
