Gerald Brom emerged as one of the standout artists of Dungeons & Dragons in the 1990s, and The Lost Note-created as the cover for issue #253 of Dragon Magazine-is a striking example of his darkly elegant, fine art-inspired style. At first glance, the piece suggests a traditional neoclassical woodland beauty, but a more haunting story soon unfolds: a chain runs from her ankle to the rock on which she sits, and skulls lurk in the water at her feet.

The work additionally appears as a plate in Offerings: The Art of Brom (Paper Tiger, 2000) and was published as a limited edition standalone print put out by Wizards of the Coast. This lot is accompanied by two prints that are signed and numbered along the lower edge.
