    We would like to thank Dr. Sybille Karin Moser-Ernst for kindly confirming the authenticity of this lot, which is accompanied by her letter. According to Dr. Moser-Ernst, the apocryphal signature "F.R. Unterberger" was likely added by a restorer at a later date.

    Condition Report*: Unlined canvas. An approximately 2-inch by 2-inch patch visible on the reverse along center of left edge. Stretcher bar marks visible at edges. Slight bubbling to lower left corner. Finely patterned craquelure. An approximately 1-inch vertical scratch in center of lower edge. An approximately 1/2-inch retouched vertical scratch in upper left quadrant. An approximately 2-inch vertical repair near center of left edge, corresponding to patch on reverse. Area of vertical texture disruption extending above the head of the rightmost female figure directly upward to the turret. Not examined out of frame.
    Under UV: heavily-applied varnish fluoresces green. Finely applied dots and dashes of retouching to upper half of the work, particularly to the sky. Reinforcement applied to darker tones in lower left quadrant, as well as to highlights throughout.
