In 1904, John Delano Husted, a wealthy banker from Cripple Creek, Colorado, bought a large parcel of grazing land in the Teller County wilderness, just west of Colorado Springs, for the Crescent Cattle Company. The company's ranch included a private hunting cabin, Jack Rabbit Lodge, which was frequented by Bostonians who had purchased stock in the company. Apparently, Teddy Roosevelt also stayed at the Jack Rabbit Lodge while on a hunting expedition near Pikes Peak. A fire destroyed the lodge in the 1940s, leaving only stone remains.

We wish to thank Dr. Valerie Ann Leeds for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
