    eBoy (20th century)
    Pixelblocks Promotional Art, c. 2007
    44 x 91-1/2 inches (111.8 x 232.4 cm)

"eBoy is a collective of three German digital artists and designers (now partly based in California) who have worked for just about every significant company that ever needed design; Coke, Amazon, Adidas, XBox, Nike, Paul Smith, Rolling Stone, and many, many more. It is quite rare to actually own a piece of physical art as their work is primarily digital, but back in 2007 a new company called Pixelblocks came out with an interlocking style brick that could be built vertically like Lego but also horizontally locking making pixel art a possibility. eBoy was hired to design and build this piece that is over 7 feet long and almost 4 feet high and was shipped from Germany to the US. It uses approximately 50,000 little bricks that were interlocked to make this piece. The approximate retail value of the Pixelblocks by themselves unassembled is over $1000. The art was hung at the corporate offices, in the Gallery 1988 window during an Iam8bit art show, and finally in the DKE Toys offices. It is amazingly framed in between two clear pieces of acrylic so it can be lit from behind or put in a window."
