Property from a Private Family Collection, Dallas, Texas
PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, circa 19th and early 20th centuries;
Thence by descent to the present owner.
Condition Report*:
On cradled and beveled panel. Two approximately 2-inch horizontal cracks in the panel at center of left edge, both with applied retouching. Considerable yellowing to the varnish layer. Two small losses in upper left quadrant, just above the waterline. Minor frame abrasion at upper edge. A few scattered minor surface scuffs. Not examined out of frame.
Under UV: heavily applied varnish fluoresces green, somewhat obscuring the picture surface. Aforementioned retouching to cracks at left edge fluoresce. A few apparent dots and dashes of retouching, primarily in the sky, but a few affecting the boats at center.
