    Dinosaur Skull Cast
    Triceratops horridus
    Late Cretaceous, Lance Formation
    Niobrara County, Wyoming, USA

As any informed child these days can probably tell you, Triceratops was a horned plant-eater belonging to a group known as Ornithiscians - the "bird-hipped" Dinosaurs. In fact, the name Triceratops means "three-horned face" alluding to the three horns associated with the appearance of this most notable ceratopsian. While not uncommon in the fossil record, most remains of Triceratops found are isolated skull and bone fragments. Complete skeletons are very rarely discovered. Fortunately, there are exceptions to this rule. In 2002, one of the most complete skeletons of Triceratops to date was collected in the Lance Formation of Niobrara County, Wyoming. Affectionately referred to as "LANE," the giant herbivore was scientifically cast to allow for extremely accurate replicas of the skull, as well as the entire skeleton. This model of the skull, which was made to order as a specific commission, looks as much like a work of sculptural art as it does the cast of a Dinosaur fossil. This replica exudes a sense of the extreme savagery of the period, a period wild enough to require a skull bearing three separate horns on a herbivore, defenses which, along with its majestic frill kept it alive long enough to reach adulthood - usually. Visually identical to the original, this titanic skull on its customized floor mount is an excellent opportunity for someone who cannot afford the real one to have the next best thing!
