LITERATURE:
G. Keyes, Cornelis Vroom: Marine and Landscape Artist, 1975, Vol. I, pp. 72 & 74; Vol. II, p. 178, fig. 35, illustrated.
In his 1975 publication, George Keyes noted that the present work, which he knew through a photograph, "bears all the hallmarks of Vroom's style in the early to mid 1620's and should be considered a major addition to his oeuvre," citing comparisons with the treatment of trees, shrubs and distant hills in works in Oslo and the van Marken collection (P 31 and 20 in his publication). He added: "Features of this composition could have inspired the 1626 London Riverscape [National Gallery, London] thereby supporting an earlier dating--about 1623-24."
