More Information:
Better known as an art dealer than an artist, Betty Parsons self-named gallery was known for significantly promoting the careers of numerous abstract artists of the 1940s including Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, and Agnes Martin. Although her work was never shown at her gallery she did continue to exhibit, moving from traditional watercolors to Abstract Expressionism, and finally, sculpture. Her work may be found in the public collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Parrish Art Museum, Southampton, New York.
