FROM THE PROPERTY OF THE BELO COLLECTION

Barney Delabano was born in Denison, Texas but moved to Dallas in 1942 to study at the Aunspaugh Art School. He quickly became a protégé of Jerry Bywaters and studied with many of the other leading artists from a group of Texas Regionalists known as The Dallas Nine, including Alexandre Hogue, Olin Travis, and Otis Dozier. He spent much of his career as a teacher and exhibit artist at the Dallas Museum of Art. Younger than the "old-guard" Texas Regionalists, his work has recently begun to attract more attention from early Texas art collectors.
