Condition Report*: Wife: Unlined canvas. Four approximately 1 x 2 inch patches applied to reverse of canvas. Frame abrasion and some mild discoloration to the varnish at edges. Finely patterned craquelure throughout. Area of pronounced pigment separation and some flaking resulting in losses just to the left of the figure's waist. A very few other scattered small dots of loss. Not examined out of frame. Under UV: very heavily applied varnish fluoresces green unevenly. Scattered finely applied strengthening to the shadows throughout. A few scattered fine retouches to the background, none affecting the figure.
Husband: Unlined canvas. two patches on the reverse of canvas at left side, the larger approximately 2 x 4 inches. Very minor frame abrasion at edges. Canvas has shifted in frame slightly, bare edge of upper portion of left edge is visible, canvas was likely painted in the frame. A small area of flaking in upper right corner at upper edge. Yellowing to the varnish layer. Finely patterned craquelure throughout. Not examined out of frame. Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly. A vertical line of brushy retouching in lower right quadrant. Finely applied retouching to the figure's jacket, particularly on the sleeves and around the buttons. A few finely applied dashes of retouching in the figure's hair, likely to address prior craquelure. A very few scattered small dots of retouching to the sky.
