Description

AN EASTERN SIOUX COUNCIL PIPE
c. 1865

composed of an ash wood stem, elaborately decorated along its length with lead inlay in a scrolling pattern of acorns and leaves, fitted into a T-shaped catlinite bowl, decorated with cross motifs in lead inlay

Length: 47 inches overall

Condition Report*: In overall good condition. Wood stem with minor chips on either end and a mottled and scratched surface mostly on the underside. Lead inlay with three areas of loss. Pipe bowl, including lead inlay, intact. Surface with usual wear, including minor scratches. No apparent restoration.
