61-1/2 x 102-1/4 inches (156.2 x 259.7 cm) (sight)
This painting is a reduced copy (approximately 1/3 size) of Couture's enormous painting in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris measuring 185 x 303 inches.
Condition Report*:
Original canvas, selectively cleaned. Crossbar crease visible in normal light. Foinet canvas stamp verso. UV examination reveals scattered small areas of inpaint overall. There is a 2 1/2 x 6 inch area of restoration (inpaint) in lower right corner. There is iunpaint to address frame abrasion, and a 1" x 1/2" area of paint loss in the lower right corner near a partial tear. There is a sharp tear measuring 4 1/2 inches in the canvas in lower right quadant. Roughly 2' down from the top of the canvas has been inpainted as well as 1" into the image along the bottom center edge. Canvas is buckling slightly at upper left corner.
