    Provenance:
    Private collection (New Orleans, Louisiana)

    The portrait traditionally served as a symbol for cosmopolitan patrons who commissioned artists to create a testimony to their social standing. This particular Family Portrait features a husband and wife of refined character, accompanied by their two children. The fair attributes of the group as well as the accoutrements and setting endow the painting with a decidedly Czech air.
