Description

A SIOUX QUILLED HIDE HOLSTER

c. 1890

decorated on the front and back with lanes of dyed porcupine quills, the semi-circular overflap with concentric lanes of quillwork in alternating colors, hide fringe

Length: 8 inches excluding fringe

Condition Report*: In overall fair to good condition. Hide with moderate wear, including moderate soiling. Back has 1" x 1/2" reddish-brown stain near top right corner. Porcupine quilling faded with some loss and abrasion. Small yellow beading intact except around lip of flap, which has approx. 1" of loss. Approx. 1-1/8" of dark reddish-brown discoloration to left side of fringe. No apparent restoration.
