Description
A SIOUX BEADED HIDE STRIKE-A-LIGHT CASEc. 1880
sinew sewn and lane-stitched in various shades of glass seed beads, decorated on the front with geometric motifs, trimmed with metal cones; metal fire steel and flint enclosed
Length: 4 inches overall
Condition Report*:
In overall good condition. Hide with moderate wear, including moderate soiling and brown spotting. On back, an approx. 5/8" (native?) repair, three pinholes in back, three pinholes on flap, an approx. 5/8" tear in left seam near top. There are approx. six small holes on top of bag's rim, exterior side. Beadwork somewhat dirty with an area of approx. 1/4" wide unattached near left top seam, and an approx. 1/16" x 3/8" loss and an approx. 1/16" x 1/4" loss of blue beadwork near center of bag. Loss of approx. three metal tipped hide dangles. Left-side's two metal tipped hide dangles detached but with object. Black pigment around rim of circular closure. Stone with obvious flake marks. Iron u-shaped object with brown spotting.
