Description
A NAVAJO SILVER CONCHO BELTc. 1880
composed of six scalloped oval conchos, each with incised linear decoration, perforations, stylized ropework, and slightly convex center, with oval opening for suspension, the buckle with four repousse lozenges and stamped designs, mounted on a narrow commercial leather belt, with old tag inscribed, Navajo Concho Belt, ca. 1880, J. H. S. Collection, and metal tag stamped FENN, PVT. COLL.
Accompanied by a black and white photograph of this lot, inscribed on the reverse, This Navajo concha belt was purchased by the undersigned from the estate of Alois Liebert who was "Man Friday" to J. H. Sharp for over 35 years. It belonged to Sharp until his death in 1953. The belt was obtained by Sharp in Taos about 1900. Forrest Fenn, 8-24-86
