Draped in a cloak, George Washington is mounted on his horse and in an contemplative state. The commander is represented as he was in the winter of 1777-78 at Valley Forge when the pulse of the Revolution was at its lowest point. In 1901, Shrady was awarded his first public commission for the monument, which is located in Brooklyn's Continental Plaza, located at the approach to the Williamsburg Bridge.
