Mira Dancy is a Los Angeles-based painter known for gestural compositions that depict individuals amid landscapes of decay. These figures take on the presence of guardians, embodying qualities of maternal care and personal strength that stand in opposition to their surroundings. Her works on paper build up grayscale compositions in ink and acrylic, creating powerful, emotive tableaux from a rich range of grays. Painted with fluidity, these figures have a timeless presence amid their contemporary wastelands, standing for renewal in the face of catastrophe. Dancy has had recent solo exhibitions at Night Gallery, Los Angeles; the Yuz Museum, Shanghai; Chapter NY, New York; Galería Agustina Ferreyra, Mexico City, Mexico; Galerie Hussenot, Paris, France; Lumber Room, Portland, OR; and JOAN Los Angeles, among others. Her work is included in the collections of LACMA, Los Angeles; The Whitney Museum, New York; and the YUZ Foundation, Shanghai.
