    JOHANN BERTHELSEN (American 1883-1972)

    A Danish-born artist who immigrated to the United States in 1889, Johann Berthelsen was a musician and vocalist who did not begin painting full-time until 1932. He is famous for his impressionistic renderings of New York City, particularly in the winter, of which the present work is a superb example. This painting is in excellent condition and is one of Berthelsen's largest paintings of St. Paul's Chapel in New York City.
