    Condition Report*: Both unframed. Napoléon: Glue-lined canvas; appears to be surface residue in red carpet and drapes near bottom edge; frame abrasions along extreme edges; under raking light, appears to be multiple areas of restoration in red drapery in lower left quadrant, including several lines of in-painting, the longest being 10-inches, as well as two U-shaped spots of in-painting, the largest being 5x3.5-inches, a 5-inch vertical line of in-painting through center of crown at far left, scattered spots of in-painting in figure's military uniform, the largest being a 9-inch vertical line through his lower sash and waist, and an 8x3-inch rectangular area of in-painting in red backdrop at upper right quadrant; most possible restorations mentioned above visible under raking light. Eugénie: Faint stretcher creases; under UV exam, appears to be several spots of in-painting in figure's left cheek, nose and forehead, as well as in her arms and chest area, broad areas of cosmetic in-painting throughout background space, linear in-painting along left edge, most likely to address stretcher crease, horizontal line of in-painting from upper extreme right edge to figure's left shoulder, multiple repaired tears in upper left corner, lower left edge of figure's dress, with the largest area, being approximately 15 x 16 inches, near center left portion of composition.
