This extraordinary "triptych" celebrates the world-famous Green River Formation of Wyoming, preserving a beautifully orchestrated inlaid assemblage of fossil fishes from the ancient Fossil Lake ecosystem that flourished during the Eocene Epoch, approximately 35–55 million years ago. Composed of three monumental, framed panels, each measuring a substantial 66.5 by 34 inches (169 x 86 cm), the installation is fashioned from pale Limestone tiles sourced from the celebrated "18-inch Layer" and features 21 exquisitely preserved Knightia arranged in a graceful school, five Priscacara swimming in the opposite direction, and a commanding Mioplosus predator anchoring the composition. The carefully choreographed arrangement creates a compelling illusion of movement across the three panels, transforming these iconic fossils into a dramatic work of natural history art while preserving the subtle texture and character of the original sedimentary matrix. The wood frames exhibit numerous nicks consistent with display and handling, but the presentation remains exceptionally impressive and secure.
