Description

Megalodon Shark Tooth
Otodus megalodon
Miocene-Pliocene
Intercoastal Waterway
Near Savannah, Georgia, USA

An exceptional fossil tooth from the giant prehistoric shark Otodus megalodon, this impressive specimen from Georgia measures over 6 inches (15 cm) along its longest edge, placing it among the larger examples sought by collectors. Dating to the Miocene–Pliocene Epoch, it represents the dentition of one of the most formidable apex marine predators in Earth's history. The tooth displays a striking jet-black blade contrasted by a subtly lighter root structure, creating a highly desirable presentation. The robust, symmetrical form enhances the visual appeal, while sharp, well-preserved characteristic serrations remain clearly visible along the cutting edges. Only a partially incomplete bourlette prevents this specimen from achieving near-pristine status. Otherwise, it displays outstanding integrity with minimal damage, no obvious visible restoration, and strong overall completeness, qualities that are increasingly difficult to find in larger Megalodon teeth. Beyond its impressive size, the tooth conveys the immense power of the legendary shark from which it came. The combination of scale, color, and preservation makes it an outstanding example for even the most sophisticated of collections.
Measurements: 6.18 x 4.31 x 1.37 inches (15.70 x 10.96 x 3.47 cm)

Estimate: $4,000 - up.
