Description

Burmite with Spider Inclusion
Burmite
Cretaceous
Hukawng Valley, Myitkyina District, Kachin State, Myanmar
0.59 x 0.37 x 0.17 inches (1.49 x 0.93 x 0.44 cm)

This captivating piece of Burmese Amber preserves an unidentified spider suspended within ancient tree resin dating back nearly 100 million years to the Cretaceous Period. Fine structural details remain visible throughout the arachnid, including the elongated legs and rounded abdomen, while smaller organic inclusions and plant fragments scattered throughout the amber add further visual complexity to the specimen. Spiders are among the more desirable arthropod inclusions found in Burmite, offering rare insight into prehistoric terrestrial ecosystems and the early evolution of predatory invertebrates. The warm honey-orange coloration of the polished Amber provides strong natural contrast against the dark preserved spider, making the inclusion readily visible and highly displayable. Both scientifically fascinating and visually striking, this specimen represents a remarkable glimpse into a vanished prehistoric world preserved in extraordinary detail.

Estimate: $400 - up.
