Two Maya Polychrome Offering Bowls

C. 400-600 AD
Slipped and Painted Ceramic
3½" x 8" and 3¾" x 8½"

The flat based bowl is undecorated on the interior and the outer flared wall with a series of abstract bird heads in orange and black. The vessel is intact and excellent, only lightly cleaned, having one stable light line. The round example is polychrome decorated in red, brown, and black on a smoothly worked surface; the interior very worn with floral images, and the outer with painted gourd effigy ribbing, a band of bird headed glyphs at the rim and having some surface pitting and staining. This bowl is intact and solid condition.
