Two Maya Painted Bowls

Maya, Southern Lowlands
C. 600-900 AD
Slipped and Painted Pottery
3" Tall by 7¾" Wide and 3½" Tall x 8¾" Wide

The smaller offering vessel is overall painted with an orange ground and decorated with red and black paint having large feathered serpent heads above an interesting band of orange squares intentionally painted with small orbs inside. The vessel is intact and excellent condition. The taller example stands on three short pointed feet, with an orange base painted in red and black, and has several glyph panels. The bowl has heavy encrustations, areas of surface erosion, fading, and is intact, solid condition.
