The wooden handle is made from a choice dense heart wood and mounted with an unusual arrowhead shaped copper , probably bronze, axe head. The axe is cast and hammer forged with a grooved lip for attachment to the shaft and secured with original tied string that is coated over in a hard resin. The axe could have served as both an important wood chopping tool and a weapon. In excellently preserved condition, one side of the axe is smooth and covered with ancient verdigris mineral growth, and the other side with hammered markings.
