Description

A SOUTHERN PLAINS BEADED AND FRINGED HIDE POUCH

c. 1900

sinew sewn and lane-stitched in numerous shades of opaque and translucent beads, with small geometric motifs, trimmed with brass tacks and hide fringe

Length: 15 inches overall

Condition Report*: In overall good to very good condition. Hide with light wear, including light soiling and some stiffness. Traces of red and yellow pigment. One side with an approx. 7/8" x 5/8" circular peach-colored mark and two smaller peach colored spots. Three pairs of small holes near top beaded rim, indicating possible loss of dangling bell ornaments. One bell ornament extant along top rim and all of drawstring tie ornaments present. Beadwork soiled with approx. 1/8" loss along top rim. Possible loss of three brass tacks along bottom rim. No apparent restoration.
