Description
A SIOUX PICTORIAL QUILLED AND BEADED HIDE POUCHc. 1910
each side decorated with a horse in dyed porcupine quills, the perimeter with a single lane of glass seed beads, trimmed with metal disks, dentalium shells terminating in an Indian head cent, and short hide fringe
Length: 10 inches overall
Condition Report*:
In overall good condition, including moderate soiling and some stiffness. Fringe: traces of golden yellow pigment, red pigment, black (ink?) stains and moderate soiling. Overall: beading vivid and intact but with areas of black (ink?) stains. Quilling retains strong color but has losses and some abraded areas. Blue horse side: Five (5) small holes near top of bag above metal disks, traces of green and golden yellow pigment, and black (ink?) spots. Loss of red feathers around inner perimeter of blue beads. Loss of approx. seven or eight metal disks. Yellow horse side: traces of green pigment and black (ink?) spots, including an approx. 1-3/8" diagonal mark on top of yellow quilling and hide on top half of bag. Loss of approx. three metal disks and some appear to be loose. No apparent restoration.
