Description

A SIOUX BOY'S BEADED HIDE VEST

c. 1890

sinew sewn and lane-stitched in various shades of opaque and translucent beads, with geometric designs

Length: 10 ½ inches

Condition Report*: In overall good condition. Hide with usual wear, including moderate soiling and some stiffness and an approx. 2-1/8" tear down back from middle of neck. Beadwork bright with some soiling, loose rows, and loss, including approx. 3/8" x 1/2" on front, four sections on front of approx. 1/4" x 1/4", approx. 1/4" x 1/4" loss under one arm. Red lining has fading, soil, and fraying, particularly around armholes. No apparent restoration.
