Description
A SIOUX BEADED HIDE TOBACCO BAGc. 1890
sinew sewn and lane-stitched in classic bead colors, each side with typical geometric motifs, a panel of rawhide slats wrapped with dyed porcupine quills suspended below, hide fringe along the bottom

Length: 44 inches overall
Condition Report*:
Overall very good. Hide with usual wear and light soiling and some stiffness. Ochre color faded. Hide with one ¾ inch tear on top near border. Approx. 10 small puncture holes. Beadwork intact. Quillwork with fading and approx. ½ inch of loss on two slats. Approx. 16 metal cone tassels missing. One of the quill wrapped fringe elements handing from top border broken off to ½ length of second piece. Hide fringe intact. No apparent restoration.
