Description
A POTAWATOMI BEADED CLOTH BANDOLIERc. 1890
composed of red wool trade cloth, overlaid with panels of loom-woven beadwork, each with stylized foliate elements in various shades of glass seed beads, the mid-section overlaid with a panel of black wool trade cloth, decorated with pairs of foliate elements, flat-stitched in blue, green, pink and pumpkin beads, trimmed with a metal buttons, loom-woven tab pendants along the bottom, with red wool yarn tassels, accompanied by a hand-written note, which states: Bandlier (sic) or Shoulder Bag, I'm sure it has great value - I was a small girl when father bought it - Many Indians traded at fathers store when I was a little girl - it is called a bandlier (sic) or shoulder bag, but not a true bag. Worn by males as decoration - solidly beaded - exquisitely beaded entire surface, 1900 - 1905.
