A PAIR OF CHEYENNE BEADED HIDE MOCCASINS

c. 1885

sinew sewn and lane-stitched in various shades of opaque and translucent beads, each decorated on the vamp with banded beadwork and with a single lane of geometric elements encircling the foot, buffalo rawhide soles

Condition Report*: In overall good condition. Hide with usual wear, including moderate soiling, tears and holes and some stiffness. Beadwork appears dusty in spots. Right moccasin: tongue with an approx. 1-1/8 split, an approx. 1/8 hole, an approx. 1-3/4 x 1 hole, and an approx. 3/8 x 3/8 hole. There is an approx. 1/4 x 1/4" hole on vamp, an approx. 1/4 x 1/4 hole on right exterior side, an approx. 3/8 x 3/8 hole along cuff, and along sole perimeter, a 5/8" x 1/4" hole, an approx. 1-3/8" x 1/2" hole, an approx. 3/8" x 1/2" hole, an approx. 1/4 x 1/4 hole, an approx. 1/2 x 3/8 hole, an approx. 3/8 x 1/2 hole, as well as four small circular holes near right exterior. There is a brownish-red spot of approx. 3/8 near right top sole. Left moccasin: There is an approx. 1/4 tear in tongue, and two approx. 1/4 x 1/4 holes on left side of tongue, an approx. 3/8 x 1/4 hole in left side, an approx. 1-1/8 x 1/4 hole in sole seam at heel, a pin hole on left side, an approx. 5/8 x 3/8 red pigment soil on left
